Communication control systems based on PowerPC processors have been widely used. PowerPC data distributor, which was developed according to the project requirement, can control the large scale distributed data acquisition terminals array to send the collected data to the center PC in real-time. To monitor working status, such as battery level or environmental parameters, anolog data acquisition is required to be expanded on PowerPC data distributorvia local bus interface. The data acquisition card was expanded from UPM interface and the thesis is on the hardware implementation and the driver development on Powerpc.Based on MPC8360E, the three working mechanisms of local bus controller were studied, including general-purpose chip-select machine (GPCM), synchronous DRAM machine (SDRAM), and user-programmable machines (UPM). A NAND Flash and the data acquisition card are interfaced from UPM. The analog-to-digital conversion is fullfiled by AD7819, which works with the timing generated by UPM. Schematic and PCB of the data acquisition card were designed carefully, and it can work with the control of MCU and PowerPC. UPM configuration registers were tested under CodeWarrior. The data acquisition card driver has been added to the linux OS running on MPC8360.
