Due to its desirable features of broad bandwidth and high data rate, LTE has become the dominant standard for next generation wireless communication and gains support from most telecom manufacturers and operators globally. TD-LTE, advanced technology evolved from TD-SCDMA and TD-HSPA, performs better in supporting asymmetrical services with higher frequency efficiency. Home eNodeB is an electrical appliance widely used to ensure in-building coverage, regarding its easy installation, low-cost, high flexibility, and good coverage performance, etc. Home eNodeB's large-scale application in TD-LTE would definitely bring huge market potential in the field of wireless communication in the future.Based on extensive study on TD-LTE standard and OFDM technique, together with characteristics of home eNodeB, this thesis is aimed to provide integral solution to initial-stage time/frequency synchronization for TD-LTE home eNodeB, which is proved be with good performance and operability. Moreover, ways to design and implement such synchronization module on FPGA are also included.We begin with introduction of LTE related background and key techniques, home eNodeB's application and importance of synchronization function, as well as OFDM modulation technique and major synchronization algorithms.Next, according to LTE standard, combined with home eNodeB's application scenario and requirements, we provide framework and algorithm design for synchronization in both single-cell and multi-cell scenario. Crucial algorithms include PSS synchronization, SSS synchronization, coarse/fine frequency offset estimation and timing tracker. In order to prove that all our designs are able to meet synchronization requirements of LTE home eNodeB, link-level simulation platform is built and a great number of simulation results are shown.Finally, we focus on synchronization implementation on FPGA, involving design of general framework, submodules (top-level controller, PSS/SSS synchronization, coarse/fine frequency offset estimation, etc.), interface modules and so on.
