With the emergence of the e-books, the position that traditional paper-based dominant is being broken, and the scene of holding large books shuttle in the streets in the past will become history, it can be said that e-book create a new milestone in the history. With e-books, e-book reader is also appears unprecedented boom, and the cell phone which own the largest users in the world nothing wrong become the best carrier. Meanwhile, with the state promotes the "independent innovation, enhance core competitiveness ", and carry out the low carbon, energy saving and environmental protection of social environment. Therefore, further develop e-book reading software has the vital significance.The topic "research and implementation of the umd e-book reader for mobile phones" is one of sub-topics for Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai. According to the requirements of domestic and international situation and practical application, design and implementation of promising mobile e-book reader software and in-depth study some key technologies in the process to improve its competitiveness is extremely necessary.The thesis firstly gives a full review of background, actuality and significance of the project. Finally, it gives the conclusion and prospect of the thesis.The innovations of this thesis are as follow:1.The choice of development platform. The current mobile phone operating system market can be said full of hot competition, there are like veteran Symbian, Mobile, Linux, and also have rising star like iPhone and Android, through analyzing and comparing the current market environment in China, selected Symbian as the development platform.2.Select and decoding e-book document formats. Through comprehensive consideration and compared with current several popular e-book format like txt, umd, pdf, jar, chose the UMD format document as the e-book file and realize the decoder of the structure.3.UMD memory optimization. Consider UMD file storage in block and in uncompress process is easy to cause memory fragments, use memory pool technology to optimize.4.Improved traditional reader multimedia performance which is not abundant enough. The specific measure is integrated the MP3 player with the reader, which is achived good performance and better satisfy people's growing demand.5.In view of Chinese phonetic pronunciation accuracy is not high, analyzed the polyphone phonetic pronunciation and proposaled a solution to deal with the liheci's pronunciation.
