Because of people's demands of communications services increasing continuously, multi-antenna technique (Multiple Input Multiple Output, MIMO) which can increase spectrum efficiency remarkably, will become the focus point in the next years. As one of the key technology of 4G system, MIMO communication has been developed particularly in the theory of MIMO systems, and the technology along with the development of wireless communication has been increased at the same time. However, because of the absence of a suitable development platform environment to provide practical MIMO systems, there is largely remained stuck in the PC-simulation stage such as Matlab simulation in the academic theory. Base on this, two improve methods in how to simulate and practice the MIMO system are proposed. One is the simulation of MIMO system in NS2, and anther one is the practice in USRP, which is using to start a new way for the MIMO technique. After some fundamental principle of MIMO, this paper introduces NS2 system, and how to realize the MIMO system in it. Then taking the Alamouti Space-Time coding as an example, the paper shows the feasibility of this method. To the practice part in software radio, this paper also gives the blue print of the MIMO system in GNU Radio platform using USRP (universal software radio peripheral). This is a better way to achieve the MIMO systems, because the system not is limited by the PC-simulation any more. The system becomes real, including the antenna, the environment, and the channels.By the experiments, the methods are proved effective and feasible, especially useful. At last, the paper summarizes the paper's content. Moreover, some developing directions are also given.
