| With the era of mass media setting in, female images have become more and more diverse and active under the influence of modern media represented by TV. From the rising of Chinese talk show programs to its status nowadays, female talk show hosts' charm and advantages have helped them gain recognition among viewers and media. It is not hard to find that the tie between females and talk shows has pre-existed for a long time. In the broad sense, compared to males, females prefer to exchange ideas and share feelings by talking at all times and in all lands. Based on the previous studies, the author discusses the unique features of female talk show hosts by referring to literature, watching talk shows and using the knowledge of female psychology, communication studies and audience analysis.The paper consists of five parts. The Introduction briefly gives a general overview of the research background and motive -- the reason why the author chose the subject and where its innovation lies, and the literature review and research methods of different schools and scholars in sociology and communication studies concerning media and cultural studies. Chapter One discusses the meaning of TV talk shows, its status and problems generated during its development. This chapter analyzes the big picture and the further details from multiple research angles with the help of varied research findings, and paves roads for proposing the solutions in latter chapters. The second chapter analyzes the features of female talk show hosts' images, and elaborates on its relationships with the audience and its forms of expression. Chapter Three dissects the unique features of female talk show hosts' styles, and analyzes the basis of the forming of their styles. The chapter also involves a contrastive analysis between female and male hosts. Chapter Four summarizes well-known female talk show hosts and their programs, and takes three hosts as examples to analyze the advantages they show in their programs. |
