High frame frequency and transient target image acquisition has been widely applied in scientific research, military, industry, medical and other fields.the direction of its development is toward to high-definition, digitization and intelligent. Comparing to western countries, the types and quality of hardware products are more fell behind in domestic. Technology of the sensor controlling also has a wide gap with over sea's company. The high-speed video equipment in current China is still relying on imports. Therefore, developing high-speed video acquisition system has important military value and practical significance.It is also very important for accurate and real-time airborne high-speed video recording system to be used to record the process and status of high dynamic target.Based on the study of embedded technology, FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) technology, CMOS image acquisition technology and the operating principle of entire video acquisiton system, according to requirements of the airborne high-speed video acquisition, in the condition of frame frequency was not too high, in the acquisition of transmission data cap was not too much, the hardware and software of video acquisition system were designed preliminarily. The verification experiment was carried out; the result showed that hardware logic functions fully met the needs of high acquisition of frame frequency. It also could provide technical support and basis for subsequent development project,in order to obtained higher frame frequency and more transmission data capcity.Video acquisition system was composed of the image sensor; FPGA core control and USB transfer cache. The peripheral circuits of CMOS-OV5620 chip, produced by OmniVision, was designed for the image device. The design of interface circuit, clock circuit and self-configuration circuit of FPGA chip EP2C8T144C8N, were also accomplished. timing-driven of CMOS sensor based on FPGA and digital image was transmitted out. The data transmission from the CMOS sensor to the USB interface chip was realized by designing the data transmission interface circuit. Depending on modular software architecture,the part of software, including system main program, video acquisition module, data storage module and the USB transfer module,were designed to accomplish collection, storage and transmission of the image data.Finally, the union adjustment experiment for the software and hardware of the video acquisition was carried out. some problems presented in system, were analyzed, and some valuable conclusions were obtained.There is 10-bits wide data in the system, the imaging unit can produce data stream of digital image up to 120 frames/second in a resolution of 864×600 case, the image acquisition rate is up to 100 frames/second.Experimental results show that the system has some advantages as simple structure, stable and reliable performance, and easy to extend etc.
