In recent years, color image segmentation has drawn an increasing number of people's attention. Compared with the gray image, color image includes not only the brightness information, but also other effective information, such as hue, saturation. Carrying large amounts of image information, edge is an essential feature of the image, and provides a significant characteristic parameter for people to describe or identify the target.Many color image edge detection methods were introduced, including color image edge detection algorithm based on color principal axis. For decreasing the PCNN parameters, a simplified PCNN model was applied to gray image segmentation. Ultimately, combining the simplified PCNN model with color image edge detection algorithm based on color principal axis, a new color image edge detection method based on PCNN was obtained. Simultaneously, the detailed analysis of influence of the simplified PCNN parameters was introduced. The experiment proved that this method could obtain detailed image edge, moreover, hold great capability for noise suppression.
