PDP, known as Plasma Display Panel is the display technique using electrode ionized gas discharging to stimulate the fluorescent powder covered on the display unit to display. It has the advantages of wider view, faster refreshing rate, higher light efficiency and brightness, easier to apply on big screen, wider temperature range, stable images and lower radiation. It is the major flat panel display technique nowadays. It uses plasmtron as lighting device, by applying voltage on the plasmtron, the inactive gas in discharging space will be in the state of plasma, meanwhile, it shows plasma discharging. Gas plasma produce ultraviolet radiation, it stimulate the screen, the screen shows images. So, the PDP electrodes open/short statues directly affect PDP images to display.However, the materials for producing PDP electrodes has very complicated procedure. Take the example of triple-electrode surface discharging PDP for instance, its electrode classified as ITO, BUS and ADD, which have diverse physical attributes, size and shapes, the production of PDP electrodes are affected by the aspects of raw materials, production facilities, level of crafts and producing environment. In order for us to avert various defects which can lead to both human and material resources waste, and also considering the development of PDP display technology, the width and clearance of PDP electrodes are reducing, this certainly will enhance the possibility of defects most commonly known as open/short faults. So, it is crucial to effectively determine the open/short statues of the PDP electrodes.The detection of PDP open/short status most uses visual inspection, tangent needles inspection, whirlpool inspection, computational optical inspection, X-ray inspection, non-contact capacity coupling inspection and so on, each one of them has their advantages and disadvantages. Chosing the proper way for inspection will be of great significance.From the PDP manufacturing crafts, this paper introduced the structure of PDP, electric property, defects in PDP manufacture and analyzed the possible causes of the defects. According to the most recent electrodes detecting method, in connection with ITO, ADD, BUS electrodes'craft and characteristic, the probes contact detection and capacity coupling non-contact detection are selected to detect the open/short statues of PDP electrodes, and also the simulation has demonstrated the validity.
