With the rapid development of computer information technology, most of science research areas such as medicine and life science, national geography information science and atmospheric basic science have been extremely improved both in academic and technical aspects, and also have accumulated a large quantity of the scientific data. How to organize, share and utilize these data effectively becomes an important and urgent problem to solve. On the other hand, the innovation of science technology and the amalgamation of research in multi-areas are more based on the data mining, integrating and the ability of transforming data into knowledge.In this article, based on the large data scale of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), we aim to design and develop a TCM oriented semantic query system by taking advantage of the semantic technology and linked data. This system integrates the relational database with web of data, and provides a semantic query interface for users to query the related data, and finally return the results in a semantic way. The main content of this article concludes as follows:1. Introduce the application background and the system related semantic technology.2. Analyze the architecture of the semantic query system and describe the main functions of the different layers including data layer, ontology layer, logical layer and presentation layer.3. Implement the semantic query methods on relational database and linked data of TCM.4. Propose a hybrid model for determining the semantic similarity between two objects, which can be applied in fuzzy semantic query.
