Study On The Mechanism And Feasibility Of Chitosan Gel Used In Contraception

Objective To explore the effect of chitosan gel on sperm motility and the mechanism of this effect and have a preliminary discussion on the feasibility of chitosan gel for clinical contraception.Method 200 cases of semen were randomly divided into two groups, control group without any treatment, chitosan gel was added to chitosan gel. Percentage of sperm motility of a grade(fast forward motion) and b grade(slow or sluggish), the number of normal, head defect, defect of body and tail of sperm, the activity of sperm acrosin enzyme, and the level of seminal acid phosphatase, neutral α-glucosid and seminal zinc was detemined and compared.Results The activity of sperm in chitosan gel group was lower than that in control group, the comparison of a grade has statistical significance(P<0.05), the comparison of b grade has not statistical significance(P>0.05). The number of deformity sperm in the chitosan gel group was significantly higher than that in the control group. The comparison of the number of sperm with normal, head defect and tail defect has statistical significance(P<0.05), The comparison of the number of sperm with middle defect has not statistical significance(P>0.05). The activity of sperm acrosin enzyme in chitosan gel group was lower than that in control group, without statistical significance(P>0.05). The activity of seminal acid phosphatase, neutral α-glucosid and seminal zinc in chitosan gel group was lower that in control group, with statistical significance(P<0.05). Conclusion Chitosan gel could significantly reduce the sperm motility and biochemical parameters of seminal plasma, and make sperm deformity. Therefore, chitosan has significant killing sperm effect in vitro and, which was regarded as a new type of contraceptive drug to further research and promotion.
