The system is very important for navigation safety, it also plays important role in traffic control and other marine affairs. AIS is composed of ship and shore system.The shore station may enhance the identification between ships and broadcast dynamically the marine traffic, it thus extends the service and management area. The station may also play as a dispatching centre to monitor the traffic and safety, as well as to supply emergency service. It analyzed the status of AIS in China and made suggestions on the design of AIS networks. The article gave its detailed suggestions focusing on the first stage of AIS construction in Yangtze delta area.
