Since the media was run under the guidance of the market in the 90's oflast century, people paid more and more attention on the recreational functionof the mass media. The researcher began to dig the social function of therecreational information from various aspects, including sociology,culturology and communication. The results of the research mainly embodytwo parts: one is to define the recreational information as the perceptualinformation exclusive of rational information; the other is to approve the socialadjusting function of the recreation, namely that the communication canbalance the real psychological pressure of the audience through increasing therecreational information. Behind this opinion, the media still play a veryimportant role on the instruction and guidance.The conclusion above is the starting point of the research of this article,also is the basic point of the retort.First, it is should be approved that early research on the informationrecreation has progress meaning in the aspects of sociology and culturology. Inthe over one-hundred-year research history of the communication, thestep-by-step progress of the academic achievements further embodies theconstant negative process on the theory of omnipotent media. From theStimulus-Response to Agenda-Setting, people gradually recognize that themedia has innate shortcoming on the function of changing the audiences'attitudes, so people simply deny the Strong Effect. During this process, theevaluation for the effects of the mass media is gradually modified, from"altering attitudes"to "affecting attitudes", further to "sharing information".Today, "knowing knowledge"and "relaxing"has become the major objectivefor the audiences to touch the mass media.So in the condition that the mass media has lost confidence on alteringattitudes and behaviors of the audiences, the mass media begins to seek a newway to make profits, that is to plan the most recreational contents on theprerequisite of audience-oriented markets. It is one of the very importanttrends to develop the contents and forms of the information to the direction ofrecreation.Through the introduction above, we can see that in the past the objects ofthe research for the information recreation only limited to the perceptualrecreational information, at the same time stress on the function of the socialpsychological adjustment of the recreational information. In fact, happyfeeling should origin from all types of information according to the wholepsychological response of receiving media information by the people. Thehappy feeling itself is also the essential requirements of the human being. Sowe should make deeper discussion for the recreational function of theinformation under the communicational trend of respecting the humanity asthe cultural base.So based on analysis above, this article establishes two argumentationbasis: one is that the recreational function of the information is not only theindirect tool for the adjustment and control of the social ideology, but also theessential requirements of the human being. If it is said that the persuasivefunction of the media mainly embodies the historical consistence fro the socialpolitical principle and behavior regulation, then the satisfaction to the happyfeelings of the audience possesses the essence and eternity of the humanity.In addition, the origin of the psychological happiness is not only thetraditional perceptual recreational information, but also inclusive of all thehealthy and orderly rational information. For example, some physiologicalresponses including the social justice, freedom of the opinions and the humanrights, knowing and respect, as well as security and so on, are all the importantcontents to create the psychological happiness. Therefore, the psychologicalhappiness is the expansion of the concepts of the recreational information inthis case.On the aspects of the detailed statements, this article firstly modifies theconcepts of the traditional information recreation and defines it as all the masscommunication information that causes the audiences'"psychologicalhappiness". Then it specifically analyzes how to realize the psychologicalhappiness of the audiences from their five psychological requirements. Thefive requirements include: mind exchange requirement, knowing requirement,justice requirement, belonging requirement and value guidance requirement,etc. It is required to note that this theory summarization bases on thepsychological requirements of humanity development put forward by Maslow,simultaneously combining with various research achievements of all thecommunication psychology.However, the exaggeration should be avoided when approving therecreational function of the mass communication information.
