With the development of electronics and technology of computer, medical image has an unprecedented progress. At the same time, with speedy expanding of the medical image information, the PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System) and medical image diagnostic report system emerge and get a quick development as the times require. PACS performs the important functions to acquire, store, archive, display, process and transmit images. Medical image processing is the core functions of the PACS system, which involves diverse image processing algorithms. A mini ultrasound image processing system based on PC is accomplished in this paper. Considerating the current request for B-scan ultrasound diagnostic technology, a serial processing is actualized for ultrasound image. The main aim is to try to find better image processing algorithms after comparing the result of experiment. The main work accomplished includes following items: 1. Providing the foundational processing function of medical image and user interface for image processing. 2. For the noisy ultrasound image, providing smoothing technology to eliminate noise in image. 3. Providing the sharpening method based on vision purpose, and the template used for interaction between user and system. 4. Providing method for acquiring ultrasound image edge, after sharpening processing. 5. Providing the doctors flexible color-selected template, after discussing the algorithm of transformation between gray image and preudo-color image, which can give prominence to the parts with functional characteristics. 6. Providing multi-side and multi-angle image geometrical transformation, with the algorithm for rotating the target image. 7. Providing the tools to measure geometrical parameters of the focus in image to doctors for evaluation, and discussing the methods to automatically calculate distance, perimeter, acreage and angle. 8. Studying compression technology in medical images and DICOM3.0 standard, and applied them in this system; Providing the conversion of file format between DICOM3.0, BMP and JPEG. 9. Providing ultrasound image management system, adjustment for conjuncture with PC and image capture card, and the functions including real-time displaying ultrasound image, storing image, capturing video, replay video and so on. 10. Providing functions to manage patients'infomation, including basic operation for the patients'information such as creating, editing and deleting, and integrated functions of creating and printing diagnosis report table, which are helpful to improve diagnosis efficiency.
