The Study Of Anhui Colloquial Periodical

Anhui Colloquial Periodical is a journal sponsored by Chen Duxiu in his early days in Wuhu Anhui Province. The journal aimed at " Saving the nation from doom and ensuring its survival, Enlightening the nation" with plain and simple language as well as rich and varied contents. It was well popular with people from both middle and low classes with a circulation of 3000 copies only half a year after its publication and was one of the most influential newspapers at the time.This thesis will develop closely centering on the journal. The first part is a brief introduction, mainly focusing on its initial social background, things concerning its chief editor Mr. Chen Duxiu and his colleagues, its columns and advertisements, reasons of ceasing, its historical value and status. In the second part, we study and analyze its contents, news texts and main literature columns. Finally, we will make a comparison with other famous vernacular newspapers of the time to find out the unique characteristics of Anhui Colloquial Periodical.
