Over two decades, the PC technology has had a great development in many fields.CPU became from 8086 to PIX and the operating system also experienced from 4 generations.However PC BIOS ,which is interface between hardware and operating system hasn't changed substantially.The drawback of traditional BIOS has become so obvious that it obviously hinders the development of PC technology.The research work of future generation PC BIOS abroad has started long time ago and the research product has even come out.While at home,the research in this field is lillte because our researchers have little awareness of the urgency of the situation. This thesis is aimed to solve the dilemma the traditional PC architecture and BIOS are faced with. On the base of the design theory of EFI and the modern OS, we propose our own solution which is faced with the future generation of PC architecture.In this designing, we import HAL theory into the BIOS software system and futherly divide HAL into three layers of structure due to its characteristics .Thus ,its compatibility,robust,porting and expandency can be superior to traditional PC BIOS. Finally we implement our design theory preliminarily on the motherboard of the core chipsets 440BX and successfully boot DOS and LINUX.
