To control large visual measuring systems with multiple visual sensors, a distributing control system based on CAN bus is developed. The distributing control system, which can be used to control a visual measuring system with 64 visual sensors, consists of two subsystems, a CAN bus control subsystem and a hierarchical video signal multiplexers. In the thesis, the structure of the CAN bus control system - i.e. the CAN bus network communication and control principle, the hardware circuitries development and control software programming, is detailed. The content of this thesis is organized as follows:Firstly, the basic setup and measurement principle of a large multi-sensor visual measuring system are summarized. The fundamental principle of a CAN bus distributing control system is also introduced.Secondly, the CAN bus control system for controlling multi-sensor visual measuring system is carefully structured. The developments of each subsystem circuitries, CAN bus communication subsystem, power suppliers and video signal multiplexers, are illustrated.Thirdly, the communication protocol of the CAN bus control system is established. Then the control software of the system is programmed.Lastly, a multi-sensor visual experimental measuring system with the CAN bus control system is set up. The essential experiments, such as the control system electrical characteristics, are carried out.Our experiment results have demonstrated that the CAN bus control system developed and depicted in this thesis is very powerful, so that it could be used in different kinds of multi-sensor visual measuring system with high effectively and reliably.
