Digital watermarking technology is an important research branch of information hiding due to its significant effectiveness in the copyright protection of multimedia. At first, this paper summaries and analyzes two digital watermarking technology analysis methods which base on communication theory and information theory. Then, wavelet theory and its application in digital image processing and digital watermarking technology are introduced in detail. This paper also proposes two new digital image watermarking algorithms in DWT domain. One of them uses the wavelet transform locally and gets high robustness against various attacks, especially the geometric transform attacks. The other uses multi-level embedding scheme and also gains high robustness. A new watermarking application – DWPS is also proposed. The DWPS is based on the PC/104 embedding computer and VxWorks RTOS platform, and it provides the watermark processing services by using an embedding Web server. To simplify the design of the CGI program which is the kernel of software part of DWPS, a watermarking algorithm coding framework is proposed which has high reusability and extensibility. The last part of the paper analyzes the research trend of digital watermarking theory and applications, and discusses the usability of UML in the design of embedding system.
