With the quick development of Electronic Commerce and the enterprise application on Internet, the tightly coupled synchronous Message Delivery System could no more support the distributed system's need of being more and more loosely coupled. How to provide a Message Delivery System with the attribute of extensibility, flexibility and pluggability has become an important problem for the development of the whole distributed system.Message service system - OnceAS MQ - is an important service component for Web Application Server. It provides asynchronous message delivery not only to the users of OnceAS Application Server but also to the Services of the OnceAS Application Server.Based on the analyses of the shortcomings (such as the simplex delivery mode, the weekness of extend, the limit of being dynamic configured, etc.) of the old message delivery system, this thesis introduces the design and implementation of message service in Web application servers, using our experience in developing the message service system OnceAS MQ as a case study. OnceAS MQ improves the software reusability and gives a guarantee of synchronous/ asynchronous message delivery system.To adapt the envoriment of the distributed system, OnceAS MQ provides the management for local and distributed persistence of the message delivery. OnceAS MQ also provides a user awarded security service.To provide reliability message delivery, a Message Delivery System should not only provide a communicate gateway, but should also provide assistant services as message acknowledgement, persistence management, logging, authorization, and etc. OnceAS MQ subdivides the acknowledge modes, and also provides the persistence support not only for local transactions but also for distributed ones. In the last, based on the message delivery test, we analyses the balance between performance and the reliability.
