On the basis of the conventional design means of DC side filtering equipments in HVDC transmission system, multi-object programming optimizing method with two objects: investment and operation fare and the constrain condition of equivalent interfering current limit is presented to get a generally optimum scheme for DC side filtering equipments including smoothing reactor, filters and capacitor at neutral bus in this paper. First, select the connecting mode of smoothing reactor and filters, also the type of the filters, then build the equivalent circuit of the HVDC transmission system which is used to get the harmonic current and voltage of each order needed in the calculation of the object and constrain functions. This optimization problem is solved by fmincon function of MATLAB, then the best connecting mode and parameters of DC side filtering equipments for the system in economic and reliable view can be achieved. With the means, the optimizing design for the project of San-Chang HVDC transmission system is fulfilled. The comparatively economical and reliable design is achieved through optimization. This design is verified by HAP program, the equivalent interfering current calculated by HAP is under the limited level.
