With the rapid development of network and multimedia technology, people do much research of geology digital museum. General geology digital museum only provides pictures and words to introduce the museum specimens. The users can not ramble randomly and seldom has interaction. The users don't feel in the real world, can not watch the specimens carefully and know the characteristics of the specimens. How can we resolve the problem? VRML provides us an effective means to resolve it. We can change the digital museum which is planar scene to virtual museum which is three-dimensional scene. We can develop a system named virtual geology museum by VRML. In the system people can roam everywhere and touch every specimen and listen to the explanation by the ciceroni, just like in the entity museum. This method enriches media form of expression and figure a three-dimensional model.Main points of this thesis: First of all, this article introduces the conception of virtual museum,analyzes the virtual museum application in native and foreign country, common implementation technology, compares four technologies: JAVA3D, CULT3D, QuickTime and VRML. At last we choose VRML to design the system. This method can give us more interaction, more immersion, more imagination, and it is more suitable to transfer on Web.Considering the requirement and the characteristics of VRML, this thesis gives technology route of implementation, expatiates the main research contents: geometry modeling, texture research, environment light, change viewpoint, apperceive action, switch sculpt. All these confirm the technology of the research and the implementation of the system.Then the thesis analyzes the work principles and basic characteristic of VRML, expatiates work pattern of VRML and conception pattern of VRML browser in detail. In the meanwhile the thesis discusses the key technology, besides it, the thesis mainly analyses three sides of the VRML explorer, the concept of the panorama, the route and event system, the light technology of VRML. After all, the thesis summarizes the syntax characteristics and function characteristics of VRML, it gives the academic base of the development of the system. The thesis analysis research content first, base on it, give the whole design of the system, and introduces the structure of virtual geology museum ramble system, structure of virtual mineral hall and frame design of Web page in detail. The thesis gives the structure design paragraph of every parts, and introduces the develop tools simply.This thesis mainly discusses the key technologies how to build a successful a virtual museum on web. After we study the conception and implementation technologies of the geometry modeling, physics modeling and behavior modeling, we implement the system on it. We study a method to design the interactive system. The thesis analyzes common two methods of geometry model: layer model and finger model. We give a new method named integrate modularization model to implement the geometry model and design geometry modeling flow chart of virtual geology museum ramble system. In the realization of the geometry modeling, considering the limit of the transferring on web, we discuss the modeling method to realize the sub-object of geometry model which uses optimizing codes, it can not decrease the precision of the model. In order to protract vivid model appearance, we research the texture control. The thesis gives the four steps of the realization of the texture control. Based on the practice, we conclude the common method of the texture control of the big object and abnormity object. In the thesis we conclude the geometry modeling of the abnormity object of the virtual world, and how to create a vive trees, flowers, specimens. These methods are easy to realize, can give us more vivid immersion, and it can reduce the workload of the scene implementation.
