Error control is one of the key problems must be taken into account by multimedia video communications. Under the support from the National 863 Project named Digital Video and Audio Coding, Transmission and Application System (No.: 2002AA119010), the work introduced in this dissertation has researched the RCPT codes which is the hotspot in channel coding field. Firstly an overview of the relative international technology is given in this thesis. And then some key points of RCPT codes and Turbo codes are presented including convolutional RSCs, interleaver, decoding algorithm, etc. After that, the algorithms of puncture table of RCPT codes are presented. The thesis introduces the factors which influence the capability of RCPT codes and two algorithms of puncture table in existence. The two algorithms only work well with a given channel SNR. Because of this, this thesis puts forward a global optimized new algorithm for selecting RCPT puncture table based on the two algorithms. The global optimized new algorithm can achieve good performance under low and high SNR. The experiment results show that this algorithm performs better than the two algorithms in both high and low SNR.This thesis also introduces some HARQ schema and proposes a new HARQ schema based on type II HARQ. This HARQ schema combines with RCPT codes and transmits the ARQ bits attaching to the data packet for the number of ARQ bits is short. With ARQ schema, a simplified decoding algorithm of RCPT is proposed which can reduce the complexity greatly with the performance reducing slightly by decreasing the iterative number.Lastly the thesis draws concludes and points out future research directions.
