The Research Of OLAP And Its Application In Modern Companies

With the development of social economy, the market changes more quickly and variably. In order to change the tactic of market quickly, the person who makes strategic decision wants to have a DSS (Decision Support System) which is used to solve problems. But traditional On-Line Transactional Processing (OLTP) is not fit to solve Multi-dimensional Data Processing (MDP) in DSS. On account of it, the theory of On-Line Analytical Processing (OLAP) is rapidly developed. In this paper, the character and the structure of OLAP, and the method of OLAP implementation were discussed, some basic issues in OLAP implementation and a new approach of OLAP implementation were also brought out.In this paper, the advantages of organizing data by ROLAP and storing data by MOLAP were analyzed and integrated. A new approach of OLAP implementation based on this discussion was introduced, In this approach, the detailed data are stored in RDBMS(Relational Database Management System), the basic fact data and the aggregations are stored in multi-dimensional structure. This approach is flexible because the data in multi-dimensional structure can be retrieved using common developing tools.In this paper, the Multi-dimensional Data Processing (MDP), which is the core of OLAP, was discussed emphatically. The comparison between SQL simulation and OLAP was discussed also in order to verify the advantage of achieving MDP using OLAP. Several methods of analysis using charts were provided in order to make user analyze directly perceived.An OLAP example was presented which included the design of structure, OLAP database warehouse, cube, program of user during the discussion. In the end, an analysis of using effect was proposed in order to prove the practicability and effectiveness of the proposal in this paper.
