TCP/IP is the standard protocol for connecting to INTERNET. In this thesis, the details of TCP/IP is studied and a simple TCP/IP stack is realized to run in a hardware system without operating system support by abonding some functions. The TCP/IP stack runs smoothly and a remote monitoring system is designed based on it. The work involved in this design includes realizing the TCP/IP stack in C-code, designing and debugging the hardware system, designing and debugging the receiving program runs in PC.Based on the TCP/IP stack, more high level applications are realized in the remote monitoring system. DHCP and SMTP are realized so that the function of dynamic IP address configuration and email sending are supported. On the basis of embedded TCP/IP stack realized in c-code, according to the spatiality of layer dividing of TCP/IP protocols, a hardware implementation on TCP/IP is designed. The Verilog HDL description of the hardware implementation are programmed and synthesized. The function of the gate-level netlist after synthesis is verified in MODELSEM and the results of the simulation indicates that the hardware implementation meets the design requirement.
