The Muslim Communication, a non-official newspaper, which is sponsored by the LanZhou Muslim Culture and Education Promotion Conference, has its own place among the contemporary Hui periodicals. Some aspects of the present Hui non-official periodicals are exposed after probing and analyzing their former total 54 issues. The format of the paper consists of three parts. The first part introduces political, economic, cultural and religious backgrounds and illustrates the epoch topics which the periodical publicizes. The topics enhance national spirit, build national quality, heighten national consciousness, promote dialogue among civilizations and assist in constructing the world Islamic civilization. The second aspect of the paper makes use of a synthesis of the view of conditions as witnessed by periodical's editors, its authors and its readership. The analysis shows that the main force making progress in the Hui non-official periodicals has changed very much compared with former studies on the Hui culture. That is to say, the folk take part in and play an important role. The last aspect summarizes the characteristics and historic meanings of the contemporary Hui periodicals . It provides a venue for the Hui to talk about themselves, it spreads Islam and allows an exchange between Chinese traditional culture and the Islamic culture. The paper attempts to provide a reference for the people by revealing the contemporary Hui periodicals through Muslim Communication. This is the final goal of the paper.
