With the development of Internet protocol (IP) broadband technology, a lot of multimedia information and real tasks in Internet steadily increases. Contrast to network formerly only for transmitting data, Internet is becoming a integrated services network for multimedia such as data, sound, image and real task etc. However, because the pattern of traditional network is so-called "Best effort services" and isn't able to provide technology guarantee for the quality of service (QoS) which is requested by multimedia and real task, how to develop the QoS of IP network has become a hotspot in network research field. Among many IP quality of service (QoS) technology, this paper focuses on the measurement technology of Internet Protocol quality of service (QoS). The measurement of IP QoS is a new research field, and it aims to get some parameter of network performance and QoS by measurement, thereby the measurement of IP QoS is the basement of IP network control of QoS, management of QoS and account QoS. The whole paper includes three parts and is organized as follows: Part 1 We analyse systemically the concept and the architecture of IP QoS. Part 2 Firstly, we analyse amply all kinds of measurement methods and implements for IP QoS, especially emphasize active measurement method. Secondly, we evaluate many popular active measurement protocols such as ICMP (Internet Control Message Protocol), OWDP (One Way Delay Protocol) and lately IPMP (Internet Protocol Measurement Protocol). Finally, we use IPMP in the simulation experimentation. Part 3 We bring forward a based-measurement method of dynamic QoS Differentiated service (DiffServ) architecture for request and admission control .The method not only uses traditionally control module on edge node, but also adopts active measurement method in QoS negotiation module of end system. In order to realize dynamic and self-adaptation QoS request. Additionally, against the dynamic QoS negotiation module of the terminal system, we carry on a simulation experiment which validated our expected results.
