GIS is applied to several fields modeling and the decision support, for example the city management, the district management, the environment repairing etc., the geography information becomes one of the important part of information ages ;The " figure Earth" concept is puts forward, further pushed the development of GIS technique that is the uphold of the concept . Mankind enter the 21 centuries—— knowledge- based economy ages , the whole world is changing from industry society to information society , the problem of the competition, survival and development is each industry include the food industry must be face to. Now, 3S technique is already applied in mapping, the hydraulic engineering, environment monitors analysis, the use of land resource, plant diseases and insect pests prevention and cure etc. realizes the request that many normal regulation's method can't attain, obtains many plenteous results. To say that apply the technique of GIS in the food industry information management, provides a sharp weapon for the worker of food industry, but our work is still not enough, along with work is through, making the technique of GIS more deeper, more widely of application in food industry, and making more benefit to the development of the food industry.The old food industry query system (MIS) is base on the topic method, with statistics table or report forms to show the content of query, this kind of query method can query the information with the fast and convenient to show the information. After the Introduction of the GIS, the query system is based on picture operation, not only fast but also showing with picture, it makes the query interesting; On decision aspect, food industry is associated with utilization of land, food warehouse dispersing is suit to operation of picture. The attemperment, control of food, the programming of food warehouse building and food rotation need the support of decision system. So GIS is important in the project of the Department of Science and Technology of JiLin Province.This text regards the province food profession of Jilin Province as the background, this system as a sub-system of the food information management and Decision Support System.
