With the increasing demands on the aspects of high process ability, network communication, real time multi-tasks, low power-consuming, the traditional 8 bits processor is far from the requirements of new products, then the top embedded processor is highlighted and applied widely. ARM is the most common applied microprocessor structure of RISC in the embedded field. In this paper, the embedded system based on ARM processor is studied. The author also introduces hardware structure and its principle of Quad El relay card that is designed by one of the ARM processors and FPGA, as well as the process of software development under this hardware platform. In order to expand the transceiver channel so as to solve the restrains of card slot number in data loop system, the Quad El transceiver is designed, which enlarge the band breadth of data channel from 2Mbps to 8Mbps,and enables 120 clients simultaneously to communicate.At present, El interface based on G703 is widely applied group network, relay network, GSM mobile base station and military communication for thepurpose to transmit voice signals, data, pictures and etc.In this paper, the author firstly analyses the developing tendency and status quo of nowadays digital loop system. With the increasing of communication quantity and information quality, the enlargement of digital transmission channels becomes a hot issue of research, which is one of the targets of Quad El transceiver. Then the author presents the structure and the working principle of digital loop carrier system, in other word, the application environment of Quad El transceiver, and then the author highlights the role that Quad El card plays in the whole system, consequently, the author introduces the systematical structure and features of ARM embedded processor. Concerning about the restrict requirement of time during data transmission, the author of this paper also introduces the FPGA technology, which is used mainly for providing the system with accurate time.Consequently, based on the analysis of Quad El transceiver working principle and the comparison of various processors' features, the author proposes the hardware design of Quad El transceiver, and then introduces the time module, interface circuit of the system, storage system module, four channel El composer module, CPU module and time-interval exchange module respectively.Then, after the G703 and G704 communication protocol is studied, theauthor presents the software design of Quad El transceiver. In the first step, the author introduces the RTXC real time operation system and illustrate in detail the boot code design of ARM processor, secondly, the author offers a whole structure under this operation system and explains the function of this software in terms of four relative tasks, in which the signal processing module, interface interrupt processing module, system operation measuring and controlling module and RC & LC information processing module are illustrated at length.Finally, the author presents the debug method of its software and hardware, and the debug process during design. The system is subject to various debug, testing after the achievement of its design. The results prove that it reaches to the expected effect and it is thrown to the actual application.
