The Research And Application Of Middleware Based Network Management In Distributed Monitoring System

After carefully analyzing the mature and popular network management (NM for short) model, e.g. SNMP model, CMIP model, I brought forward the model based on the middleware-Middleware based Network Management Model. This new model is different from the old C/S model and it manages the whole network in a distributed method. Compared with the old fashion of NM model, this new approach offers strong flexibility and adaptability.In this article, the architecture of this NM model is expatiated together with the model of NM information and communication. Also, this new model has been applied to a monitoring network. Considering the particular requirement of the monitoring system, we offer a new architecture of monitoring NM system. This new architecture changed the old concept of building NM system based on application. In this new monitoring NM system, application is abstracted and divided into different granularity. We also offered a developing environment for configuration the objects.In designing the NM protocol, I broke the old way of designing protocol regardless the function or without function. In this new NM protocol, I clearly divide the protocol into two parts: one stand for the function and the other stand for the performance. Using the protocol engineering method, I analyzed, designed and validated the protocol in formal methods.The application of NM protocol is fully exhibited in the NM module, which includes all the OSI defined function areas such as configuration management, fault management, performance management, accounting management and security management.Building under the middleware, the NM protocol and NM module make up the runtime system of the NM system. The network element configuration, project configuration and the runtime system in together provide a new usable NM system. In a word, this new Middleware based NM model has a multi-layer and distributed architecture, object oriented design for the management information and a clear communication model based on middleware. This new model will be more flexible, convenient and efficient by no means.
