At present, the overall tendency of software development is constructing object-oriented, network based, distributed and heterogonous application system using distributed component technologies, and dividing the software system into independent components with different functions, which can be platform and programming language independent, and can communicate with each other for collaboration,Handwriting-based identification recognition is an important research field of Biometric identification, and also an active topic in computer vision and pattern recognition. In this field, although some progresses have been made, there are still many problems to be solved. In this paper, based on the exploration of different handwriting recognition technologies, combining with distributed computing based on CORBA, we proposed the development of distributed Chinese handwriting recognition software system to fulfill the need of police department. The main achievements of this paper are as follows:1. Based on the detail studies of handwriting recognition technologies, especially on the recognition method based on handwriting feature and texture, we summarized the recognition methods and computing equations.2. Studies of component-based distributed computing technologies, and detail discussions about DCOM, J2EE and CORBA. On the base of the discussion, we proposed to construct this system according to the CORBA architecture.3. We have made software architecture model based on UML, and described the system from different viewpoint.4. We have summarized software design patterns, and implemented and applied some patterns in this system using DELPHI.5. We constructed the client-side and server-side distributedhandwriting recognition software system based on CORBA and DELPHI, and the expected goal has be achieved.
