With the rapid development of digital information and multimedia technology, image processing and recognition system has been widely used in various industrial fields. This thesis describes the principle and implementation of a level bar calibration system based on image processing and recognition methods. The calibration system utilizes the combination of advantages of optimal thresholding and contour tracking to analyze the image of air bubble and recognize its features.This thesis covers:1. A brief introduction to the wide application of image processing systems in industrial fields and some basic methods of image processing. According to the aim of the level bar calibration, a system design is put forward and further composition and structure illustrated.2. Description of some basic knowledge about image capturing, the capture card and its selection. Introduction to the programming of capturing software and programming package of MS Video for Windows.3. An introduction to fundamental methods of image processing and processing algorithms. According to the task of contour measuring, several traditional contour measuring algorithms are analyzed and compared and a measuring method of using optimal thresholding is proposed.4. Description of the principle of thresholding and its development. Illustration of the method of optimal thresholding and its implementation. Analysis of its advantages and limitation and discussion of the room for improvement. Demonstration of the measuring method used in level bar calibration system and comparison of its result with those of traditional algorithms.5. Description of the concept of image allocation and recognition and demonstration of the feature extraction and recognition in the level bar calibration system, including fast recognition of image contour, extracting and judging features and sorting the categories of features.6. Conclusion of the whole structure and principle of the calibration system and discussion of the cutting edge of measuring technology and some remaining problems.
