With the rapid progress of communication network technology and VLSI design technology, embedded system has become the focus of IT. Embedded systems are used in autocontrol, industrial, military and family comsumed devices. Now most electronic products are not in the form of computer,such as smart phone, PDA, router, smart home appliances in the form of embedded system. The embedded operating systems are almost needed by software of embedded system. Developing Chinese embedded operating system owned by China has vital strategic meaning for our national IT industry and information security. We should grasp the chance and make our efforts to develop the advanced embedded operating system and applications in head of the world.Embedded operating system is the software that direct runs at hardware. According to the different special occasions you should choice different special hardwares, embedded operating systems and applications. This paper introduces the whole process porting and configuring from standard i386 architecture to ARM architecture.This paper introduces the embedded system and Linux operating system first, obtains the combination -embedded Linux, and analyzes the features, advantages and current trends in the world. Then introduces the hardware of embedded operating system, design an embedded system that can meet the requirements and improve the abilities of porting and reuse. Then discusses a whole porting process of embedded Linux from Boot loader, startup part of kernel, device drivers, file system and so on in detail. At last, introduces the methods how to complicate and debug the embedded Linux operating system, analyzes the principle and methods of Intel PXA26x.Developers can build up a embedded hardware and embedded operating system according to this paper.The constructed embedded Linux operating system has been successfully applied in the sPCC (secure Personal Computing Center), which is a trust mobile device produced by Shanghai Wellhope Information and Technology Co. Ltd.
