The steel structure is getting more and more application because of its light weight, big span , short time limit for a project, various styles , easy to protect the environment and so on.As the important part of the architecture CAD software system, the steel structure CAD software helps to finish the work of steel structure such as analysis,design,and plotting. It can reduce the design workload of a engineer and improve his design efficiency. So that it is meaningful to prompt modernizing the architecture design vocation of our country.According to the characteristic of the steel structure design, we absorbed advantages of internal and abroad steel structure CAD software ,analyzed the system using object-oriented system analysis method,described the objective joint object ,abstracted the complicated steel structure elements and established a object module of steel structure joint design system. By the object-oriented system design method we established the implementation model including the system architecture,data flow,arithmetic analysis.The system realized the joint design on any shaped steel structure joint .Now we can improve the design efficiency and save the memory space.Using COM,with the language of C++,we developed the Solidworksby VC. We inserted our module into SolidWorks as a plug-in accessory which can expand the function of SolidWorks and realize the engineer drawing.By ADO we could operate the Access database and input the joint data into it on real-time.On the basis of it we accomplished the joint data saving and parts accounting of the steel structure.The steel structure design CAD is a complicated and huge system project dealing with Mathematics, Engineering Mechanics , Architecture and Computer Graphics.So what we have done is just making some simple exploration on the basis of what we had. To realize the commercialization and practicality of the system, plentiful manpower and material resources should be putted into it and further flexible research and development should be done.
