Parametric design is one of the most important research directions in CAD systems. In order to extend usual parametric design to entire design process, a parametric design method based on function constraints is present. The method is also applied to implement moulding board parametric design . The paper is divided into eight chapters:Chapter one is the exordium. Based on analysis and introduction of machine design, CAD system and parametric technology, the background of research project and contents of the dissertation are addressed.In chapter two, the basic theory of parametric technology is studied , and three main parametric methods-variational geometry method, geometric reasoning method, constructing-procedure-based method-are described.In chapter three, according to the shortage of existing parametric method, the technologies of engineering oriented - function constraint based parametric design are present, feature-based parametric modelling and the approach to classifying and mapping design constraints. At last an engineering based prototype system is established.In chapter four, aiming at the two key technology problems of realizing function constraints based parametric design system, the solving approaches are put forward: the defining of feature model, the conversion technique between feature model and dimension model, formulation and dispersing disposal of constraints relations.In chapter five, UG custom development tools are outlined, the critical custom development techniques such as setup of development environment, interface development technology, internal programs development, GRIP programs development, and communication problem between two different programs are discussed.In chapter six, the structure and technology requirement of injection machine moulding board are analyzed and the design process of moulding board is expressed; combined with the technology approaches which are shown in the frontal chapters, the parametric model and parameter driven mechanism of HTFX series moulding boards are implemented.In chapter seven, based on UG, the software of HTFX series mould boards parametric design system is developed and the result of the software is analyzed.The last chapter is conclusion and expectation. The achievements and shortcomings of dissertation are summarized. The following research work is put forward.
