| With development of society and technology, network is everywhere in our lives. There are more and more applications based on network, including applications in bank systems. Now every bank has its own network through out whole country and/or whole world and the network has become the foundation of bank's development. Terminal accessing is an indispensable part of bank network systems.The paper focuses on the old bank system using multiplexer to link terminals into network that can not meet the need of the banks and advances a new terminal accessing method which is called router's dumb terminal accessing technology. Because multiplexer accessing has some disadvantages such as low utilizing rate of band, each terminal having only application, being trouble to maintain and update, specially, can not meeting the need of new software of bank; however, dumb terminal accessing has not this disadvantages and has some advantages of more functions, more security, easy extending, low cost of running and so on. So we improve more than one thousand and five hundred terminals' accessing of ChongQing agriculture bank. In the reconstructing, the main work is to code the configure file of UNIX computers and routers as well as some relative programs. After being reconstructed, the new network system is running well from 2002 December to now, except a few devices were damaged by power, there are no troubles in the network. The speed of network is more high, specially when typing report forms. So the dumb terminal accessing get the approbation and appraising. Thus the agriculture bank set out to apply the method to all of country.In the paper we introduce the basic knowledge of network, router's main functions and some configures at first. Then we explain the theory, functions, characteristics, and configures of router's dumb terminal accessing service.
