With the development of information technology, how to input the information of objects in the real world into the computer is more and more necessary. Fast and high-resolution 3D laser scanners to obtain information of large objects are especially important for digital city, buildings construction and so on. The work in this paper is part research work of developing a 3D laser scanner, which is supported by National 863 Hi-Tech Project.Firstly, on the basis of research work on the current development trend of 3D laser scanners, the servo system of the scanner is designed. The basic ideaes, principles and methods of subdivision driving technique of step motor are introduced; the tinier functions provided by Windows OS are analyzed; the hardware and software of the servo system are realized. Besides, factors that affect the results of subdivision driving are discussed. Furthermore, after analyzing popular methods applied in laser distance measure, waveform analysis is used in the laser scanner. A high-speed A/D card is used to acquire the signal, related software of this part is programmed and the time of waveform analysis is estimated. In the end, the programs of servo system and A/D card are integrated so that the servo control system, laser source and high speed A/D card can work synchronously. With the help of real-time hardware interruption processing and multi-threading technique, the real time performance of control software is optimized.
