Research And Implementation Of An Object-oriented Mechanical CAD System

Scale and life period of software continuously increase along with the development of production, as well as mechanical CAD System. In order to resolve the software crises, not only the method of software engineering but also the tools of computer-aided software engineering must be used in the development of software. Mechanical CAD system developing with structure method has bad readability, expansion and maintenance. The object-oriented technology provides a satisfactory solution tool for the design of large-scale and complex system. The object-oriented software development method has remarkable advantages for the establishment of the complete product information model. Development Object-oriented method provides a new software developing method. It's a developing direction to use Object-oriented method in mechanical CAD system. UML, a standard modeling language of Object-oriented, amalgamates the basic concepts of usual Object-oriented methods and unifies symbol system, has become a dominant method in the development of software in the last few years. Moreover, as a tool of CASE that supports UML whit many advantages, Rational Rose has become more and more popular.In this paper, the idea and methods of the object-oriented technology are presented for the design and realization of a mechanical CAD system. It discusses some methods and principles of development for a special purpose mechanical CAD system based on UML by the tool of Rational Rose. It is significative to import UML to the developing of mechanical CAD sy stem a nd t o r esearch t he a pplication o f U ML i n m echanical C AD sy stem. It w illquick the developing of Object-Oriented CAD system, accelerate the application of object-oriented method in engineering software, promote the expansion and maintenance of software. As an example, this paper introduces the firebrick die CAD system that is designed by object-oriented technology and with the method of UML. All of these will provide some new thinking and methods for the development of mechanical CAD system.
