Foot orthosis, as a kind of support installation for alleviating the function obstacle of skeleton muscle system in foot, can be used to treat all kind of feet diseases. To raise produce successful rate and the property of foot orthosis, this paper studies and designs for foot orthosis CAD system.First, this paper introduces the current situation of foot orthosis CAD system. Because the domestic study for CAD/CAM technology started just in recent years, the technical level has fallen behind developed countries such as Germany and America. And there are still no development and application for the orthosis CAD/CAM system, therefore, a set of foot orthosis CAD/CAM system is needed. Then, the composition of foot orthosis CAD system have been analysed, and the funtion of every parts has been elaborated separately, including the digital measurement of model, the digital modeling of foot orthosis, computer three-dimensional surface modeling, man-machine interaction and so on. By using contact scanner, the digital information of foot orthosis can be gathered and the original model of foot orthosis can be built. Aim at the property of foot orthosis, the building of foot orthosis can be realized by means of surface modeling. And the three-dimensional simulation model of foot orthosis is displayed through OpenGL technology. Also through man-machine interaction, the function of local modification can be implemented. The core of foot orthosis system is man-machine interaction and model modification. In order to reach the arbitrary modification, the function of man-machine interaction should be raised. First, accurate definition for the edited area should be carried out, the data of that area should be differentiated and modified, and the reasonable, comfortable model will be get. The application of CAD and interaction technology guarantees the accuracy of foot orthosis design, reduces the cost and is the other innovation and breakthrough for foot orthosis design.
