Now, more than 90% robots in the application of industry are not intelligent. With the development of the level of the robot intelligence, the application field of robots become more and more abroad. Service robot is a kind of hemi-independent and independent robot., and the work it does can provide service and happy to human being. In this paper , the development work of a kind of service robot--the talking wheeled mobile robot is presented. the mechanism and control of the mobile robot is analyzed detailedly, and a new kind of omni-directional wheeled mobile mechanism and its kinematics are provided. This kind of mechanism can complete straight line and circular arc route. And gets the design equations of the route shape, which are the base of the navigation control.In this paper, the feasibility of speech control system is proved. The total design, the system module analysis and the user interface design are completed. Specially, the software IBM ViaVoice is studied deeply.A speech control system that can be applied on the mobile robot is developed. In this paper, the feasibility of vision navigation system is proved. The total design and the system module analysis are completed. Specially, the image processing card Matrox Meteor-II is studied deeply. The meanings of 2-dimension locating and 3-dimesion locating are analyzed. A vision navigation system that can be applied on the mobile robot is developed.
