News media and politics are always interrelated and interdependent,especially in U.S.A. American modern media play important roles in governmental process and election campaigns. News communication is made one part of political operation.Cooperation and opposition between news media and government can be also found in the early American newspapers. The first American newspapers were set up by those post-officers and can be considered as semi-official ones. From the beginning,political reporting was always the main and vital content in the newspapers,and it had helped form the political feature of American newspapers.Political reporting is a stem clue of political journalism. The thesis focuses on the development of the early American political reporting in the method of history analysis and macroscopic analysis.The thesis expounds and proves how the relation between American media and politics was cultivated and developed in the early time and the differences between that in the early time and in the modern time.The thesis has six parts in all. Chapter 1 gives a general survey of the early American newspapers. Chapter 2-5 cover the important historical periods in American political reporting development. Chapter 6 is the conclusion.
