Facing "News Value" Itself

Guided by the epistemology of Marxism philosophy, thisthesis tackles the reality that theoretical research on journalism is isolated from the needs of journalistic practice. Starting from the news values, the research reflects and criticizes the traditional theoretical research method which is experiential and rational oriented. Based on the critical review of the phenomenological methodology, the thesis proposes for the first time the practice-oriented phenomenological methodology.With the new methodology, the thesis put the journalism concept news values in the context of journalistic practice. Learning from the developments of other disciplines such as psychology, communications, linguistics, analytic philophy, rhetoric, logic, the thesis analyses how news value works in every stage of journalistic practice:interviewing, writing andediting. It discovers the gap between the connotationand extension of the news value concept.It is hoped that the research will depart from the metaphysical and mechanistic thoughts in the traditional school. It also aims to break the one-to-many relationship between the abstract journalism concept and the real practice so that it can make contributions to journalism theoretical research, the combination of journalism theory with practice, and journalism education.
