The development and application of digital image, and processing principles of digital image relevant of mineral processing engineering were summarized in this dissertation. The various image segmentation and its application in paniculate division from background, as well as the application of various grades operator and methods of mathematical morphology in edge detection, have been discussed.The structure pattern recognition based on crack code, the crack code tracing algorithm of microphotograph, the image segmentation method based on convex function and the boundary integral algorithm of image set size were proposed, according to which the mineral paniculate size was calculated The method of marking graduation and the recognition of bacteria dynamic image were also discussed.With Visual C++ 6.0, a microphotograph size analysis system (or MSAS) had been developed in Windows environment The open code was adopted to make the system simple to expand function and easy to maintain. To the modes of paniculate distribution, equal ratio, grade series, and user-define were provided in order to satisfy various study necessities; and particulates distributed with narrower level scope can be analyzed with MSAS instead of sieve analysis. Most importantly, an analysis of large sample from a lot of images was designed so that it can enhance accuracy of MSAS by many samples. The single step recognition mode was designed, which makes the user easily to extract the target he cares for, or to solely extract the particulates distribution of a certain kind of mineral from the entire images.It was founded experimentally that the respective results of image analysis, sedimentation analysis, and Laser particle size analysis were consistent approximately.
