In this study, a rigid model of virtual conical thread gauge is built, the standoff and visualization of this model is analyzed, and a software of 3D graph & animation display of virtual gauge is developed. This software can be learned and used simply. Not only can the calculation of standoff of any type of conical thread, but the 3D graph & animation display of the calculation results be done. As to the software design scheme, based on the principle of Human-Computer Interface design, a graph user interface(GUI) with Chinese and the style of Windows is designed. Through this GUI, users can complete the data management, standoff calculation, real-time realization of 3D graph display, real-time control of animation, the change of viewpoint~ the setup of animation effect, the part zoom, and so on. In this paper, the feature of the virtual conical thread is analyzed. On the base of this feature, the database technology is used to organize and manage all of the data. In programming, Object-Oriented Programming(OOP) is applied to build the problem model. The features of Object-Oriented Design(OOD) are used to express data and graphs. OpenGL 3D graph programming is used to design and display 3D graphs & animation, and the reality effect is realized to an extent.
