The College Entrance Exams in China is a basic education system, a complex systematical project, and a conjunction between intermediate and high education. To participate in the College Entrance Exams is a key step for Chinese high school students to enter into colleges and universities. Therefore, the College Entrance Exams have always been a hot topic highly concerned by the whole education circles and even the entire society. While we take the composition section which plays an important role as the top priority of these exams.The form of the compositions for College Entrance Exams is in constant reform since the new epoch. We are delighted to see the great achievements made in the reform, but meanwhile, we also can see that it seems as if more and more denouncements were developed. What is the reason for it? In order to find out the answer, it is significant and necessary to review and analyze the compositions since the new epoch, and discuss about and summarize its pros and cons.This paper takes the compositions in the College Entrance Exams over the past 30 years since the new epoch as the research target and makes the statements in four chapters. The First is the Introductory Chapter. It introduces the background, sense, object, methods and current situation analysis of the research. The Chapter Two is the basic situation of the College Entrance Exams composition in the new epoch. According to the differences in the forms of the composition, the history of the composition since the new epoch is divided into three stages: the first stage(1978-1998), the second stage(1999-2004) and the third stage(2005-2009). It is mainly about the analysis of the changes in the aspects of the forms of the propositions, the demands of the literary styles, the contents of the tests and the evaluation standards and the judging ways of the examiners. By the analysis we can conclude that on the one hand the achievements in the composition reforms since the new epoch should be fully recognized. And on the other hand we have to explore the College Entrance Exams composition rules of its changes, analyze the reasons of the changes and summarize the composition developing traces since the new epoch. They are the propositional composition--aterial composition--topic composition--new material composition. The Chapter Three is to evaluate the College Entrance Exams composition in the new epoch. It reveals vertically and horizontally the essence of the present testing modes of the College Entrance Exams composition (it is also the essence of examining the writing abilities.) by means of analyzing the existing problems of the propositions for the College Entrance Exams composition in the domestic and comparing the testing ways of the composition abroad. By using of the cases it has made the further analysis on the consequences caused by the existing composition testing essence. The Chapter Four is the states quo of the writing teaching and the different opinions to the reforms in testing the College Entrance Exams composition. After revealing lots of disadvantages existed in the present middle-school writing teaching, it has put forward the concrete measures for reforming the testing of the College Entrance Exams composition, that is we should cancel the direction of the opinion determination in propositioning the composition and reconsider to make the composition based on the students' real life and the connections of the current social realities. To reform the existing composition testing system in consideration of testing the students' mental vitalities and their express abilities should be the starting point of the College Entrance Exams composition. On that basic we attempt to construct an ideal model for the College Entrance Exams composition testing, so as to release the students from their writing predicament and promote the development of the middle-school composition teaching and Chinese language education healthily and positively.
