The Research On The Leisure Life Of Professional Women In Cities

With a theoretical view of sociology, based on the foundational theoretical framework of leisure and its style, and according to the data gathered from the questionnaire survey, this research attempts to give an objective description to the condition of leisure life of urban occupational women from three dimensions, including leisure time, activities and attitudes, and then finds out the problems exist in it. On the basis of the research, the author employs the role theory to research the influential factors in women's leisure life from the perspective of socialization.Based on the empirical investigation of the occupational women in C city, this research shows the following discoveries. (1) The leisure condition for the occupational women is generally not optimistic. The high level activities have low participation rate, and mainly remains traditional and low-level. Most women do not have enough leisure time in workdays. Moreover, they have vague ideas on the evaluation of leisure. (2) Their leisure level is restricted by the middle family income, which causes their low participation rate in the leisure activities and makes them confined to traditional recreation. In addition, the choice of the game types and toys by their parents influence their future recreational preferences. The women's family role occupies their recreational time. (3) The leisure atmosphere in the company restricts the participation rate of recreational activities and prevents the improvement of the leisure level. Their low occupational level results in the limited expenses in recreation. (4) The mass media provides one of the leisure styles for occupational women and takes up plenty of their recreational time. The acculturating effect of the mass media makes women accept the traditional female role expectation during the socializing process, and prevents the elevation of their leisure level.Considering from the current influential factors in the occupational women's recreation and from their future expectation on leisure, these factors are partly relevant to the individual occupational women, or closely related to the government, or partly linked to the social public opinions. Therefore, a resolution can be found from the levels of the government, individual, and social public opinions. Only in this way, can the leisure life quality be promoted, and meet the substantial requirements of the harmonious society construction in our country.
