Chemistry is a subject that studies on constitutes, structure, property and changing regulation of material on the molecular and atom levels. The property of matter reflects on macroscopic changing. The microscopic constitutes and structure is the fundamental knowledge to understand the property and command the nature of the changing. And the chemical symbol, as a special language for chemistry subject, describes the macroscopic matter and changing regulation at microscopic level. Thus, it is supposed to develop macroscopic representation, microscopic representation and symbol representation for chemistry knowledge, and connect organic bond among these representations, that is threefold representations. This research takes the method of multidimensional analysis system. It identifies knowledge dimensions to solve some sort of problem. Then, it identifies complexity of each problem. These help to make code for each problem. There are two stages of the research. A test is done among 100 senior three high school students of shanghai. The first stage is made between students with good chemical knowledge and students with bad chemical knowledge. It is supposed to investigate the differences on transform from macroscopic representation to microscopic representation, from microscopic representation to symbol representation, from macroscopic representation to symbol representation of the two groups. And it proposes three possible facts that lead to the differences above. It includes(l) command of knowledge representation itself(2) make connections between deferent representations (3) the depth of question representation. The second stage is done in students with good chemistry knowledge. It interferes with two dimensions and three dimensions problems. The results show (1) The ability of transform among three representations is not decreased as the increase of dimensions (2) The influence of increase of dimension to different representations is different. The increase of dimension improves transform between macroscopic representation and microscopic representation, while the impact to transform between microscopic representation and symbol representation, and transform between macroscopic representation and symbol representation is not sure (3) In more dimensions problem, each dimension of some questions is parallel. It can be seen as a simple addition of one dimension. But in other questions, the dimensions have obvious connections inside. The interforce between dimensions improves to solve the questions. At last, this research provides some instructional strategies for reference.
