Time use survey (TUS) is a kind of research which shows time use conditions of people in a certain area of field. Time use research in study field could be regarded as a branch of time use survey. This branch focuses on collecting dates of students and divides those of study fields. Such research can show study conditions of different students. This thesis focuses on time use pictures of university students and defines the research itself as an exploration one. By choosing 32 university students who enter universities in Shanghai as cases and using time diary as main method, the study shows time use conditions in study field of a certain semester of this group of students. Besides data collection and analysis, this thesis also tries to do correlation analysis between time use dates and grade point average dates to see whether there exists relationships. Also, these time use dates are compared with those of American university students. The result shows that these 32 students all spent certain amount of time on study daily. Averagely they spend 8.39 hours per day on learning during Monday to Friday period. And studies in campus occupy most of this time while having class accounts for more than half of it. Finishing homework is the second event which needs most of the time. Although they study hard, these students also have exuberant lives. As a research method, time diary seems to provide most exact data. Yet needing more resources is one of its shortages. Also the method could only be used in a limited survey pool.As to the correlation analysis, the result shows that there doesn't exist co-relationship between gpa dates and time use dates.
