The Western Classical Ideas Of University And Their Inspirations To University Governance In China

The idea of university is the rational knowledges and expected pursues about university, and it is the essencial reflects of the higher education and involves the elements of times, society, individual and so on; therefore, the idea of university is people's basic knowledge about the spirit, character, function and mission of university. It is the relational regularization between university and outside world, and it also lays the philosophical foundations of the internal management and operation about university.During the developing of university, the idea of university elaborates the effect of standard and direction. In the article, I will do my best to resolve two questions, the probe into western classical ideas of university and the university governance should follow standards and selections inside the classical ideas of university.The article falls naturally into three chapters.The first chapter is an introduction. It explains the theoretical values and practical significance of the study, analyses the achievements and shortcomings of earlier studies on this topic. Besides, this chapter also introduces the train of thought and research methods of the study, and defines the chief concepts and terms used in the article.The second chapter deals with the historical development of the idea of the university in the western country.This probe is divided into four parts in the western classical ideas of university, which are analysed in the process with sprout, formation, annotation and build, insistence and expand.The third chapter reviews the ideas of university in China and contrasts with the western ideas of university.For this reason, this article analyses that universitical development should insist on university autonomy and general education and so on. Based on the analysises, this article suggests that university governance should insist on the special choices inside the ideas of university.The suggestions are divided into exterior and interior analysis within university governance.
