Now in the 21st century, all countries give first priority to reform and development of education, which is the principle strategy. In China, reform of new curriculum is advancing and a variety of types of curriculum have been developed one after another. But whatever teaching modes are used, there must be based on the grasp of basic knowledge. The journey of a thousand miles starts with one step—historical pictures, documents, which are part of basic knowledge and have special and important teaching functions, become an essential part and important method to finish the middle school History education task and target.But currently quite a few history teachers at middle schools do not have proper awareness of function of historical materials and pictures in teaching activities, and do not do more explanations on them. What they do is just to explain the book text. There are reasons behind, such as some social factors (e.g. examination-oriented education), conventional thinking and the out-of-date understanding of teaching staff. Then the consequence becomes very serious: For students, then can not only fully and objectively understand historical figures, events, phenomena and rule, but also they are losing the inert drive and research interest in history classes; for teachers, to some extent, they have missed the chance to cultivate students'independent thinking and research abilities. The fundamental target of new teaching concept put forward by the new round of curriculum reform lies in the development of students. For this target, through analysis of different types and functions of illustrations and documents, this thesis elaborates the value, development & utilization status, development & implementation status of illustrations and documents, and then gains attention from teachers and students.Main parts of this thesis are:1) Improvement of national quality advocated by the new curriculum standard of History depends on the continuous development of basic education. Shortcomings of traditional high school teaching style and idea have to some extent become obstacle for all-round development of students, and also become the main reasons of teaching mode reform. Bruner'Construction Theory is the theoretical basis of new teaching modes and ideas, and development theory has provided theoretical basis for our country's curriculum reform.2) This thesis discusses the theoretical idea of development and implementation of illustrations and documents in new high school History teaching, illustrations and documents utilization status, necessity and feasibility of making full use of illustrations and documents in teaching practice, gradual combining the value and idea of the teaching mode with high school History teaching practice.3) From teaching practice, this thesis analyzes the factors which influence evaluation on reform practice under current situation and forwards corresponding measures, and then provides an idea for resolving the problems.
