Under the background of building innovation-oriented country and high-leveled universities, the grass-roots organizations of university not only need to efficiently transfer knowledge, but also need to discover and apply the knowledge. Hence, the urgent need to reform the way of the division and organizational form of knowledge-based labor in the the grass-roots organizations of university. The new grass-roots organizations system should be beneficial to the discovery of knowledge compare to the the transmission of knowledge .And the division of labor also should be based on the scientific research that oriented by the classification system of knowledge to creat the university's internal organization and operating mechanism compare to based on the community-oriented professional education .Discovery, transmission and application of knowledge is discipline's mission. Discipline have scholars as the main body, supported by the knowledge of information and all types of academic resources, based on the specific classification of knowledge in scientific research, personnel training and social services in the University of grass-roots academic organizations. Therefore disciplines is to achieve three major functions of the University of intensive organizations at the grassroots level which is conducive to university organizations to maximize the functionality and efficiency. The growth stage of discipline is an important part of the development of whole discipline. Therefore Based on the life-cycle theory of discipline, Combined with an Empirical Study on the national key disciplines and the key disciplines in Zhejiang Province which also taken by the project team of "A study on the growth mechanism of discipline in university", this paper launched the discussion on the growing period of discipline.In this paper, the study take discipline organizations life cycle theory as the main line, Then describe the specific characteristics of the growing period to illustrate the conditions and driven-factors of discipline how to develop from growing period(represented by key discipline in Zhejiang Province) to maturity period(represented by national key discipline). The growth of discipline is a complex phenomenon, in conjunction with the state of discipline leader of national key discipline, the paper also combines population ecology theory, resource dependency theory, rational contingency theory, and systems theory with a multidisciplinary perspective to analysis the growth path. Based on the above analysis, the paper concludes with the problems faced by growth stage and their corresponding strategies.
