The issue of Chinese knowledge teaching is a popular topic in the new curriculum reform. How to deal with the Chinese knowledge is the point at issue. Whether we can solve the problem of the Chinese knowledge well will be the links of success or failure in the new Chinese curriculum reform. Ye Shengtao, Lu Shuxiang and Zhang Zhigong are the seniors of the educational circles in China. They all have rich experience of working for the Chinese education for a long time. They are respected as The Three Seniors. So sorting out and grouping their views of Chinese knowledge will be, without doubt, of great importance to the present study of the problem with the Chinese knowledge for referring in reality. The Three Seniors'Views of Chinese Knowledge, which is divided into four chapters, groups the teaching of Chinese knowledge, discusses its influence on the Chinese education, explores its enlightenment to the reconstructing of the Chinese knowledge. In chapter one, by analyzing the present situation of Chinese knowledge study and looking back the history of the Chinese knowledge teaching, we find that the problems there are at present are that the system of Chinese knowledge hasn't been built up, that the criterion of Chinese knowledge sorting hasn't been consistent, that there isn't any common understanding of the question that which are the basic Chinese knowledge. So the study of Chinese knowledge still needs to be deepened and developed, and it is necessary to rebuild the system of Chinese knowledge. Then, it discusses the relationship between Chinese knowledge and Chinese accomplishment, proving the reasonableness of the Chinese knowledge teaching. It defines the concept of the Chinese knowledge and the concept of the view of the Chinese knowledge. Chinese knowledge is defined as : Chinese knowledge is the whole of the knowledge and experience which people obtain in the activities and practice of using the Chinese language. It concludes that the Chinese knowledge is the prerequisite and fundamental of the Chinese accomplishment. In chapter two, it summarizes and generalizes Ye Shengtao's, Lu Shuxiang's and Zhang Zhigong's views of Chinese knowledge and compares the differences and identities among them. Their views of Chinese knowledge are identical on major issues though with minor differences. In general, from Ye to Lu and to Zhang, their views of Chinese knowledge are inheriting and developing constantly.Chapter three exposes the influence of their view of Chinese knowledge on Chinese education. The influence on compiling The Chinese Teaching Outline is that The Chinese Teaching Outline absorbs their ideas of Chinese knowledge, including contents, ranges and teaching methods and so on. The influence on the textbooks reflects the changes of dealing with the Chinese knowledge and its editing way of the Chinese knowledge contents. The influence of their Chinese knowledge on evaluation is a changing process: from to examine both Chinese knowledge and abilities of listening, speaking, reading and writing to to examine knowledge and ability synthetically, not to examine the students on the terms of Chinese knowledge and the common knowledge of grammar, and that rhetoric and types of writing is not included in the examining range.Chapter four talks about the enlightenment that The Three Seniors'views of Chinese knowledge give us. The Three Seniors'views of Chinese knowledge tell us that the subject of Chinese is the study of language and characters. The purpose of the Chinese subject is to improve the ability of the students to understand and use their mother language and characters. So to range the Chinese knowledge is to decide what knowledge has the function of it. The Three Seniors'views of Chinese knowledge tell us that the Chinese knowledge we usually refer to is the declarative knowledge in modern sorting of knowledge. While the teaching or learning method we usually call is the procedural knowledge in modern sorting of knowledge. But it is not habitually looked on as knowledge in the Chinese. It is also in accordance with the habit of thinking that The Chinese finely sort things. The enlightenment that The Three Seniors'views of Chinese knowledge give us is that to sort out the Chinese knowledge we must follow the most essential principle: We must adapt sorting of Chinese knowledge to the characteristics of Chinese. The main enlightenment of Ye Shengtao's, Lu Shuxiang's and Zhang Zhigong's views of Chinese knowledge on the construction of Chinese knowledge are: we must at first identify the work of Chinese knowledge; second, to study Chinese knowledge must be in the basis of Chinese; in the end, we must follow the rule that the theory must, at first, come from practice and later be put into practice.
